Hi! I’m Kelly Vogel.

I’ve loved to sing and play the piano since I can remember. But, in college, anxiety, dissociation, and fear of performing became more present in my life. Since then, I have explored a variety of embodied practices and activities to help me relax and self-regulate. My experiences through many years have helped me to appreciate, and remain curious about, the richness and complexity of the human experience and the ways we connect.

Over the last 5+ years, I have cultivated a practice of creative vocal expression, and it has profoundly changed my life.

I call this practice Sound Passage. By playing with the nuances of my own voice, in all its whispered softness, hesitation, boldness, and strength, I have learned to embrace, not escape, anxiety. I feel more empowered and present when I sing, perform, and speak publicly. This practice has opened me to a deeper experience of myself that stretches far beyond singing.

I am currently getting my PhD in Educational Studies, with a focus on Trauma-Informed Pedagogy in higher education. One topic I am exploring is the significance of the voice in learning environments. The voice plays a significant role in parent-child attachment, and I am curious about the ways our attunement to the voices around us affect the nervous system.

I have a certificate in Integrative Sound and Music from The Open Center in New York City, where my teachers were pioneers and leaders in Sound Healing, including Grammy-Award nominated Sylvia Nakkash, John Beaulieu, Matt Levine, Valerie Naranjo, Pat Moffitt Cook PhD, Thomas Amelio, 4-time Grammy Award-winner Glen Velez, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, Rick Jarow, Maggie Wheeler, and many other amazing teachers.

Finally, I am a longtime singer/songwriter with a love of poetry and vocal harmony. You can learn more about my music here.
